Monsoon

The winter of 2025-26 was the warmest and driest on record in Colorado. Snowpack was abysmal. Six years after the Cameron Peak fire, the largest in Colorado history, tore through this canyon, conditions this summer have felt eerily similar – hot, dry days, crunchy grasses, and low river flows. Thank God for the return of the summer monsoon weather pattern. We’ve had good dumps of rain the past couple of weeks and while it’s not nearly enough, and not as drought-busting as winter snowpack in the high country, the woods and river seem revitalized. Last night the storm clouds gather, a harbinger of another good dump. Within a couple of hours, the lightning show was spectacular and we received a hard, quenching rain. Color me grateful!
